This book is divided into fifteen lessons which are planned to develop a comprehensive course of study for the beginning church organist. The lessons are designed to establish a foundation that could prepare the student to become a professional organist if he should so desire or to study at a college as an organ major. The lessons progress from the simplest exercises for manuals alone and pedals alone to the playing of three and four part contrapuntal compositions and hymns. The exercises and repertoire of progressive difficulty are planned to anticipate the question and problems that the beginning organ student may have. This book is designed to provide the student and teacher with the principles of manual and pedal techniques by presenting adequate exercises, illustrations, and repertoire through which these techniques may be mastered. Nothing can take the place of a competent teacher; however, these lessons have been prepared to help the student who must continue organ study alone.
