"Upstairs Downstairs" for Key Stage 2. THE MAKING OF FERGUS DONOVAN is the first title in The Big House series and introduces the characters and setting to the reader. It tells the story of the newest arrival at the big house: orphans Molly and Fergus who are taken under the wing of the daughter of the house, Miss de Ray. But when a position is found for Molly in Canada, the de Rays see no problem with separating the siblings from each other. A FIRE IN THE VILLAGE Mrs Armitage is having her annual pig roast party. But when sparks from the bonfire set the thatch on fire, Mrs Armitage and two servants from the big house are trapped in the smoke-filled house.
