Ever wonder how those beautiful German shepherd police dogs got started being police dogs? Or what it takes to become one? Well, it isn't easy, that's for sure, and not every dog can have his day, either.
This is the story about one of those dogs who did have his day, a German shepherd puppy named Cazar. Coming from a large family, Cazar did not stand out among his siblings at first. But soon a sharp eyed police officer named Sergeant Esposito Cazar, intently watching a tennis match (actually, watching the tennis ball!), took Cazar under his wing, and turned him into one of the top patrol/narcotics police dogs in the state of illinois.
Not all police dogs have very specific motivation at the beginning of their training , however. K-9 officer dogs may come from very simple and gentle surroundings. Yet, with proper supervision and inspiration, "regular" dogs can become "super" dogs, simply becuase someone took the time to help them, and because deep down inside, each dog wanted to do well.
The author of CAZAR: Believe in Yourself, Genaro J. Esposito, says this scenario can be a truly wonderful guideline for children as well as their parents. Citing Cazar's story, he says, I could not think of a better way to try to help motivate children and to make them believe in themselves, and that they can become anything they want to be." Arf!! Arf!! Sounds like Cazar agrees with him!
