Klassentreffen, Part 1 of a two-year course, teaches German in a fresh and engaging way, by "getting under the skin" of a class of students at the Luisenschule in Essen and discovering what they think and feel about themselves and their environment. Fully integrated, listening, reading, speaking and writing are practiced in every unit of the course. There is ample opportunity for pairwork and work in groups, as well as independent study. Each unit deals with a different topic and includes tasks for comprehension, manipulative exercises, and productive tasks; extra listening material to be used at home; additional material to practice comprehension skills and widen the range of vocabulary; a section enabling students to compile their own file of personal information, which can be used for revision and recycling previously learned material. There is also a review section that brings together all the new language and vocabulary featured in each unit, plus a full German/English and English/German glossary. The second part of the course, Euroskop, will be available in 1996.
