Written by experienced special needs teachers and fully assessed by The Basic Skills Agency to ensure accessibility in both layout and content, "Livewire Plays" is a series of exciting plays about the issues, dramas and challenges of being young. Stimulating and accessible, the titles in the "Livewire" series have been produced with The Basic Skills Agency to ensure a non-patronising approach towards to the requirements of readers with special needs. They provide teenage/adult interest level fiction and non-fiction for those with reading ages below ten, or adults students learning English as a foreign language. "Livewire Plays" is a series of plays that provide accessible and interactive material for the special needs reader. They are subtly colour-coded for the appropriate 'reading age' and are superbly illustrated throughout. The plays are written for 2-4 characters and are intended for small group reading. "The Plumber" is about Jack's first day in a new job. He manages to free a woman's toe which is stuck in a bath tap, but he gets a black eye for his trouble; a length of piping lands on his toe; his thumb gets stuck in a pipe; and he mends a tumble dryer which starts when he's still in it! All in all, he spends more time at the hospital than at work, and his new boss Mr Smith is none too pleased. That is until Mr Smith himself becomes accident-prone as well and realises 'it could happen to anyone'!
