Blackstaff Press Ltd
Launched in Belfast in 1971 with a book of political cartoons, Blackstaff Press is now regarded as one of Ireland's foremost publishers. Over 650 titles have been published, covering a wide range of subjects (mainly but not exclusively of Irish Interest) from history and politics to fiction, poetry and humour. The quality of the books has attracted numerous prizes and awards, and in 1992 Blackstaff achieved a notable double by being named UK Small Publisher of the Year by the Sunday Times and winner of an AIB Better Ireland Communication Award.
While the conflict in Northern Ireland has provided a grim backdrop to Blackstaff's work, its publishing programme has been widely praised for its integrity and liberal ethos. The company also provides an important platform for creative writers and artists, and its contribution to cultural life is recognised in the generous assistance it receives from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Blackstaff books are produced to the highest standards by a prize-winning team of editors and designers, and a professional in-house marketing staff ensures effective sales distribution throughout the world.
Blackstaff Press is a member of the W&G Baird Group.
Specifically interested in books with these subjects or themes: adult fiction, poetry, biography, history, sport, politics, cookery, natural history, humour.

Please don't send a complete script in the first instance. We like to see a short outline and some sample material - one or two chapters if it's prose, or about ten poems if it's poetry. If we're interested, we'll ask to see more material
Include a short covering letter giving us relevant information about you as a writer - have you been published before? have you won any writing prizes? do you have a particular expertise in your subject? etc.
Your material should be presented on A4 paper, typed or (preferably) word-processed on one side with double spacing.
Please don't send a disk with your material at this stage, and please don't submit material via fax or email.
Enclose a self-addressed envelope - large enough to contain your material, and with adequate return postage.
Don't forget to include your name and address on the first page of your material and on your covering letter.
We're always on the look-out for good new writing, but please bear in mind that we receive many hundreds of submissions annually, and it can take us quite a long time to reach a decision.
Good luck!
