Publisher Information

Adriano Salani Editore

Established in Florence in 1862, it is one of the oldest Italian publishing houses still in business, and in recent years has succeeded in renewing the successes that made it famous during the first half of the twentieth century in the field of popular fiction, the great classics and in children's books with the unforgettable Biblioteca dei miei ragazzi that stimulated the imagination of entire generations. Just a few years after joining the Longanesi group in 1986, it became a leader in the field of children's stories, a reference point in the Italian panorama for quality, creativity, innovation and a privileged observatory of the children's world. In 1989 Luigi Spagnol took charge of publishing. There are over 800 books in a catalogue that includes the best-known writers of children's books at an international level: J.K. Rowling, with six volumes of Harry Potter - , Roald Dahl, Philip Pullman, Lemony Snicket, Luis Seplveda, Astrid Lindgren, A.A. Milne, Daniel Pennac, Jean Giono, Michael Ende, Christine Noestlinger, Eva Ibbotson, Tove Jansson, Jostein Gaarder, Jacqueline Wilson, Roddy Doyle, Walter Moers, Philippa Pearce, Terry Pratchett, Jonathan Stroud, Celia Rees, Erik Orsenna and many others. Among Italian writers are Silvana Gandolfi and Silvana De Mari, whose works have been translated in many countries. There are two main series for children, Gl'Istrici and I Criceti, managed by Donatella Ziliotto; not in the series are the children's novels read by persons of all ages, and that opened the crossover season. Fiction is flanked by highly successful collections of essays and popular publications for children, from the Brevi Storie (Short stories) - including Breve storia del mondo (A little history of the world) by Sir Ernst Gombrich, to the innovative Brutte Storie, published in several series; the illustrated books, the collection of Poesia per giovani innamorati (Poetry for young lovers) and the Laboratorio Salani text-books.
