In 1998, two Absey books, Poetry After Lunch and Just People: Paper/Pen/Poem were named to the American Library Association's Best Books for Young Adults as well as The New York Public Library's Books for the Teen Age. In 1999, Absey title Where I'm From was nominated for the highest honor in young adult literature: the American Library Association's Michael Printz Award, the young adult equivalent of ALA's Newberry Award.
