A Central European University Press Book
Central European University Press, Budapest - New York Following the founding of the Central European University by the Hungarian-American philanthropist George Soros, CEU Press was established in 1993. Reflecting the intellectual strengths and values of its parent institution, the press publishes books on the political philosophy and practices of open society, history, legal studies, nationalism, human rights, conflict resolution, open media, gender studies, Jewish studies economics, medieval studies, literature, and international relations. The publishing program of CEU Press focuses on issues of Central and Eastern Europe; it is also committed to the past and present history, society, culture and economy of the countries of the former Soviet Union and its neighbors. In 2003 the Press expanded its list to include books in the field of Arabic and Islamic studies. The press will act as a forum for authors internationally, as well as locally and regionally, interpreting problems of the region, and issues of political and economic transition more widely, for an international readership. CEU Press aims to build upon its established reputation as a publisher in this field and expand its list as resources and opportunities allow. The Press will be responsive to authors seeking to place high-quality manuscripts but will also take initiatives in commissioning individual books and series. This remit includes research monographs and other specialist texts, the publication of archive material (particularly relating to Central and Eastern Europe in the modern/contemporary period) and also books of high quality destined for a more general readership (in common with other university presses). We operate by standards common to university presses, including peer review and editorial committee approval. Our books are produced regionally and sold internationally.
